Do you love to journal? Do you express yourself more effectively in writing than in the spoken word? Then you might be someone who would benefit from doing therapeutic work by email. As both a writer and an autistic person who has published work relating to my own experiences of processing the spoken word differently, I know first hand the value of reflective writing and of the power of receiving witnessing and a kind, empathetic response.

How does it work?
Every week, you send me an email of up to 1000 words. I will take some time to reflect on what you have written and will reply to you within three days. You then have time to consider and integrate my response before replying the following week.

Do I have to be good at writing?
Absolutely not. If you feel moved to put thoughts, feelings and sensations into written words, therapy by email is for you. Spelling and grammar are not important. I just need to be able to get the gist of what you want to communicate.

Can we do somatic work?
Yes, definitely. While I do tend to lean into parts work approaches (TIST and IFS) when working by email, I may also suggest somatic entry points to your material, or I may offer simple yoga or somatic practices that you can explore if these are things that you would like.

Why might you prefer to work by email?

• You are more comfortable with communication that doesn’t require being face to face.

• You prefer communication that doesn’t require a verbal response.

• You enjoy reflecting through the written word.

• You have difficulty with hearing or understanding spoken words or with speaking.

• You prefer the slower pace of writing, receiving, reading and reflecting and the time it allows you to think before responding.

• You have difficulty committing to a set meeting time.
   

Is it secure?
For therapeutic work by email I use Proton Mail, which is an end-to-end encrypted email hosting service.

 

Practicals
The cost is £45 per week. This includes one email from you of up to 1000 words, and one response of a similar length from me. (Please note that for international payments, there is an additional 10 per cent charge. This is to cover transfer fees.)
