The Circle is an opportunity for seasoned teachers to come together, in a spirit of witness and mutual support, to explore experiences we hold in common as elders in our field. The intention is to create a safe space for honest reflection, where we can laugh, we can cry, and we can share what feels real for us in our teaching and practising life.
We will be using experiential tools (drawing, writing, moving) to help us to access deeper awareness, and there will be plenty of time for speaking and listening. Some of the questions up for consideration include:
What is an elder yoga teacher?
How do we relate to the current yoga scene in an ethical and authentic way – one that honours the essence of yoga and doesn’t sell anyone out?
How do we navigate age-related changes to our body and to our practice, and how do we see these reflected in our teaching?
How do we respond to the death of our own teachers and negotiate the shift into positions of responsibility and leadership?
How do we respond to the culture of abuse in many of our lineages, and how do we create more nurturing and ethical practice settings for our students?
The group will consist of six monthly, 90-minute meetings on Zoom, and is for those who have been teaching regularly for a minimum of 15 years. Teachers from marginalised groups are very welcome. Please let me know if you have any access needs; I will do my best to meet them.
Dates: Sundays 26 April, 31 May, 28 June, 26 July, (no meeting August), 27 September, 25 October.
