I went into my first Mysore class feeling very unsure and a little intimidated. But after the first session I was hooked. I’ve made progress in a way you just do not in a led class. Jess is always there to give you support in a calm and thoughtful way. She encourages you to try those challenging postures and helps you to understand how you can move towards them, so ultimately you achieve far more than you ever felt you could – but essentially she is always concentrating on you as a a person and your own journey both on the day and in the longer term.”—Lysanne

Thank you for Mysore practice today. It was such a pleasure to be taught by you and the assistant teacher. All day I have been smiling.”—Bart

I did try another shala. It was nice, but it just didn't have that community feel that Greenwich Mysore does. The teacher was lovely, but I didn't feel there was that enquiry with students that I love so much working with Jess. The group at St Mark’s is small, and you get a lot more than just the standard adjustments. So, in short, I think we've all been spoiled! Even though it means I have to drive, I've come back to Greenwich.”—Claire

I can’t believe some of the positions my body managed to get into, and hold (with a little help), in Mysore practice today. Awesome!—Caroline

The switch from a led to a Mysore class can be daunting. Do I know the sequence? How fast / slow do I go? How many sun salutations did I just do? My mind is constantly wandering. After a couple of sessions though, it becomes clear that the body’s memory holds everything you need. With so much new detail to learn from Jess, and with her amazing adjustments, new ways of being in the body and mind gradually – and amazingly – become possible. Walking out of the class every week I realise this is one of the most important things I do for myself.”—Yana

I stumbled on Jess’s ashtanga class when I was looking for an introduction to yoga after three years of intensive tai chi martial arts training. In Jess I found a teacher who can hold a space where I feel safe, supported and yet challenged. Feeling her dedication, research and open-minded attitude to her own practice and her desire to share it with us in her mindful classes has been a constant for me this year and has inspired me to hold my personal practice with dedication and mindfulness. The emotional and physical benefits are priceless and so rewarding.”—Charles

Don’t know why I was so scared to try Mysore ... I really enjoyed it!—Nicola

I love my yoga practice and I am dedicated to it ... I now realise that Jess has been a big part of it ... I love it so much especially because I worked with Jess. What a privilege that was! The way Jess teaches, the way she explores the body, the way she approached each of us, the way she shared her knowledge with us, the TIME she gives everyone to explore, all that I learned with Jess, all the challenges ... but still not pushing at all ... and to  play and even giggle sometimes. I think I never said thank you enough. Well, Jess, thank you, thank you, thank you!—Monica

Jess's ashtanga classes are amazing. They are quite challenging, but Jess is a great teacher who takes time to adjust and explain the poses and breathing in detail. The class leaves me feeling like I’ve already achieved a lot early on a Saturday morning. I would seriously recommend it to anyone who is interested in yoga!—Lea

I love Jess’s ashtanga classes. She has a beautiful teaching style. I have learnt so much and I am feeling very differently about myself in my body. Thank you, Jess. You have given me some of my confidence back.”—Jodie

I am so glad I found Jess’s classes. I was looking for something to give me my first bit of ‘me’ time after the birth of my baby, but I didn’t want to sign up to any old yoga class – I wanted to feel physically challenged and some of the local classes I’ve dabbled with have been a bit wishy washy and the instructor didn’t teach much technique or breathing. The class has been really enjoyable and definitely lived up to my expectations. I feel stretched, challenged, rejuvenated and energised afterwards, and it’s a great way for me to unwind.”—Leah

The ashtanga class is my fitness class and it works really rapidly. I improve my suppleness and stamina after a few sessions. Ashtanga makes me feel very strong. I have been so unwell with my back pain that I have not been able to walk properly but I am nearly healed completely now ... I consider my yoga class to be both a physical and a spiritual commitment to myself.”—Tinsel

Ashtanga is my ‘me’ time which supports me both physically and mentally by giving me space and peace. The practice guided by Jess has supported me in understanding the meaning of process and presence, which is very important to me as I have a physical condition which fluctuates and I need to be able to adjust in the moment in order to cope with my everyday life as well as with my practice. It is also crucial to me in my career as a contemporary dancer. The practice Jess provides feeds into my dance practice as well, strengthening and aligning me in an appropriate way, and I can bring issues or things that I am working on within dance class into my ashtanga practice to feed my practice and develop further.”—Anna

I do the ashtanga vinyasa and the restorative yin yoga. I love doing both as they complement each other so well, the yin bringing a perfect balance to the fast and energetic ashtanga vinyasa. I have such a wonderful, helpful healing time in Jess’s classes, plus I get fit as a bonus.”—Belinda
